NATURAL CORK INSULATION
Light natural cork for thermo-acoustic insulation of walls, flooring and ceilings
In natural environments, the cork oak uses its bark to protect itself from the heat, cold, humidity and from fire; cork granules are obtained from the bark, a natural and transpiring product, which with its flexibility, also dissipates sound energy and subsequent to boiling, also becomes rot-proof, it cannot be penetrated by insects or rodents and remains stable with time.
The cork granules obtained are assembled using natural glues to become panels, even rabbeted.
Thermal insulation:
During winter periods, walls are better insulated and heat up sooner saving energy used for heating. During summer periods where temperatures are high, the cork stops walls heating up too much owing to the sun's rays, significantly reducing heat thanks to the larger density.
Sound insulation:
Excellent acoustically, it has the ability to provide high sound insulation in compliance with Government Regulation (Prime Ministerial Decree of 1997) which states building acoustic limits, thanks to its flexibility and its specific weight, it is one of the few insulating materials to bring together high thermal insulation and acoustic insulation. One intervention enables the achievement of both objectives.
Roof insulation:
The roof serves the fundamental purpose of retaining heat in, it must respire freely with perfect hygroscopic balance; for this very purpose it should direct condensation and vapour flow out externally via the use of transpiring materials such as cork and via a ventilated structure which enables the disposal of the hot air in the warmer months and eliminates the condensation.
